PRAYER OF A STUDENT TEACHER/CREDO/PERSONAL EDUCATION PHILOSOPHY

Prayer of a Student Teacher

               Heavenly father, our Lord, most high, by the wonderful gifts of the Holy Spirit, my everyday endeavor becomes victorious. I know that I am fragile, impetuous, faulty and sinful. I also know that I am not worthy of Your unconditional care and love but despite of my imperfections, I beg You, my Lord, to still forgive me. 

                  Lord, I know that I almost abuse your kindness but please, do not stop hearkening my prayers especially in times that I need You most because You are the only One who can defeat the discouraging impediments in my life. Lord, there are people trying to steal my happiness that is why I ask for your impregnable protection so they cannot damage my feelings. Also, heal my heart and mind so that I am always competent in facing my students. Yes, Lord, I am a student-teacher and soon I will become one of the greatest teachers who are ready to serve my brothers and sisters. I hope that you will not cease dispensing Your wisdom and authentic love in my emptiness. Albeit sometimes I am negligent, I pray that You will not stop guiding and teaching me so I can teach my students the right deeds and reasons. I am one of Your servant and stewards and I promise to protect and care Your creation. 

Lord, please help me to direct the path of my students so I can lead and light their way. Words are not enough to thank and praise You for Your unending love and blessings. You are our Torch, our Confidant, our Teacher, and our Father.

 I lift this prayer to You, our Lord. Amen.

Credo

      I AM NOT ONLY A TEACHER, BUT A TEACHER!

      "Becoming a teacher is not a job. You became a teacher because you are one of the chosen ones. God made you to be one because He knows you are capable of changing ones' life."

      Thinking the tasks of a teacher will make you give up. Thinking that you will work 24/7 will make you stop pursuing to be one. Thinking the different attitudes of students will make you doubt. But without a teacher, world will be in chaos. I have a thousand of reasons not to pursue teaching yet I have a reason to stay, I am destined to be one. I am about to change the world.

       I am a teacher because God chose me. I will also be a light for my students. I will be one of those who will lead the way of my students. I am a teacher. I am not only a teacher, but a teacher. 

"Be a teacher who changes children's lives and leads their way in doing the things with love."

My Personal Education Philosophy

         Teaching young minds is a task that cannot be taken lightly. It is full of challenges, frustrations, and responsibilities.

       When the teacher's role is to guide, providing access to information rather than acting as the primary source of information, the students' search for knowledge is met as they learn to find answers to their questions. For students to construct knowledge, they need the opportunity to discover for themselves and practice skills in authentic situations. Providing students access to hands-on activities and allowing adequate time and space to use materials that reinforce the lesson being studied creates an opportunity for individual discovery and construction of knowledge to occur.

       Classroom organization is also a key concept to consider when teaching. If students are in a classroom that is unorganized or set up in a way which hinders learning, it is not a good situation for anyone. I need to find creative, new ways to have the room set up and to help my students learn. I also believe in teaching content that is meaningful, applicable, and inviting to students. If they do not see the point of the subject matter then they will not be interested in it. I also believe that high energy levels and a positive attitude from the teacher are key elements to a successful learning environment.

            

       For myself, teaching provides an opportunity for continual learning and growth. One of my hopes as an educator is to instill a love of learning in my students, as I share my own passion for learning with them. I feel there is a need for compassionate, strong, and dedicated individuals who are excited about working with children. In our competitive society it is important for students to not only receive a solid education, but to work with someone who is aware of and sensitive to their individual needs. I am such a person and will always strive to be the best educator that I can be.

                Engineer Virgilio V. Dionisio Memorial High School is located at Marcelo H. del Pilar Street, Poblacion, Pulilan, Bulacan and is of walking distancefrom the municipal hall. The sid school has already produced graduates since 2004. It was named after the late Engr. Virgilio V. Dionisio. The family of the late Engr. Virgilio V. Dionisio donated their 1,516 sq.m. lot while the Salvador family bestowed 100 sq.m. of land for which the entire school management is very thankful.

           EVVDMHS, as the shortened form, is composed of two two-storey buildings parallel to each other. Each building provides ten spacious classrooms. The school has a multi-purpose hall connected to its canteen. Any competitions in the school are held in the said hall. It also serves as an area for students who have rehearsals for school performances. A grotto can be seen near the school guard house and the flag pole near the statue of Engr. Virgilio V. Dionisio. Although the school is relatively small, it is able to accommodate its students through shifting of classes.

Computer Laboratory 1

          
The school is capable of attuning itself to the integration of information and communication technology. The faculty is given the opportunity to use projected and audio media in teaching. Also, the school possesses more or less 100 computer units intended for the students.

         The school is determined to become a force to reckon with in the different competitions it joins. In the present time, the school participates in different activities held in Bulacan and strives to send participants to regional and national levels. The school is hoping for a land extension to accommodate the increasing number of enrollees.

Reflection

The Two Two-Storey Buildings

            The school is accessible to all the residents of Pulilan because it is located nearby the parish church, municipality and the national road. Because of the growing number of students due to newly implemented Curriculum, the school became crowded – classes are shifting with more of less 60 students per room and grade 11. The two –two-storey building are too closed to each other and is risky in times of unexpected phenomena like fire and earthquake. There is no play ground that can accommodate physical education class however they have their hall connected to their canteen but not for sports activities. The school also has access in municipal gymnasium where every gathering and school activities are held.

        Moreover, the school environment is conducive for learning because of its noiseless surrounding. School supplies vendors and eateries are located near the school. There are CCTVs that look after the safety of the students, personnel, and facilities. Technological materials are enough to address the needs of the 21^st century kind of learning to be offered among the learners.

             Even EVVDMHS is in its only 13 years, its successes are continuously growing and its performances are continuously developing. Its physical environment does not hinder its capabilities and capacities to forge students as they have the best qualities of teachers.

          Some teachers often times say that grade 7 students are just only grade 7, and try to point out that I have to limit my objectives and evaluation in only Lower Order Thinking Skills kind of learning because that is the limits of their abilities and capacities. I neglect to listen in that perception because I do not believe that the capabilities of a person can be regulated by other people. We do not know what they can do and communicating a Lower Order Thinking Skills kind of learning among students may obstruct their development. If they will not experience some difficult challenges, they will not also experience successes.

          I communicated my standard and expectation averagely so I can make sure that they can meet it however, they met it and exceeded beyond my expectation and set standards. The outcomes were really worth complimenting for because as I compared the works and thinking skills of grade 7, grade 8 and 9, there is no immense distinction.

          Certainly, there were students whose works did not meet the standards but it is not about their level but about their self-interest and motivation. As a practice-teacher, I always give my effort for them to love my subject because if they are interested to learn, they will surely give their best doing anything related to my subject. If they are not, they will just pass their work as they only did it for a minute. As a future teacher, connecting the subject to students’ lives is important pre-requisite before implementing outcomes-based approach because if a teacher is successful in connecting the subject to the learners, they will not limit showing their potentials.

 LEARNERS' FEEDBACK

           To see students learn is the best and most precious reward a teacher can get for his/her entire life of teaching. There are no any other things can replace that reward because even learning is intangible, it is visible in many forms. As a student-teacher, it is my greatest pleasure that my students learned from me. Their feedbacks let me realize who I am as a teacher, as a friend, as a parent and as a confidant. They gave me mirrors to reflect of how my teaching strategies and skills unbolted their interest to the subject Social Studies. However, also through their feedbacks, I became conscious that there were some students who were not listening in the discussions and students I neglected to call when they raised their hands. I was downcast because even they were just some of all my students, still it was my flaws. But instead of dwelling with pessimisms, I will take that as things that I have to improve so if I become a teacher, I can say that I grow enough and not afraid to grow more.
